On December 23, 2019, my boyfriend gave me the best day of my life… He proposed!
BEFORE THE PROPOSAL:
My boyfriend (Adam) was deployed in Sicily, Italy. I went to visit him at Christmas time and flew in on December 22. The next day we drove to the most beautiful town called Taormina. On the way, I spotted a double rainbow (see the picture on the right)!
The drive was beautiful. I had the privilege of listening to my boyfriend sing Mambo Italiano the entire way there :) We arrived at the Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo in Taormina. This is by far the most beautiful hotel I’d ever stayed in. It is just opposite to the Greek Theater and offers panoramic views of Mount Etna and the Sicilian Coast. Walking into the lobby, beautifully decorated for the holidays, we checked-in and went to our room. Opening the doors to our room again took my breath away - it was gorgeous! I took a video of this beautiful suite that extended out to a private terrace overlooking a beautiful Sicilian view.
THE PROPOSAL:
My boyfriend said he had booked dinner reservations and would look around to see where we could have drinks beforehand as I got ready. Keep in mind I had no idea he would be proposing - he’s surprised me with many amazing things before and I just thought he was being his sweet and romantic self by booking us this incredible room at this incredible hotel.
When Adam came back to the room, I had just finished getting ready. He said we should have drinks at the bar area on the terrace upstairs which had spectacular views before going to dinner. I agreed and took my coat and purse. When we got to the bar area, Adam suggested we take a photo on the terrace together, and suggested I leave my purse and jacket on the table indoors. Again, I didn’t think much of it because I agreed it would look much nicer in the photo if I didn’t have my jacket and purse with me.
We went to the lookout area on the terrace. Then the song La vie en rose started playing which had a lot of significance to us as he sings it to me on his guitar or while playing the piano. I just thought hmmm… what a coincidence that this song just started playing as we walked onto the terrace! I was still completely unaware of what was actually going on… until I saw in the corner of my eye that there were people with cameras in the corner taking photos of us!
And then it happened… he proposed!
Then champagne was poured and we had a toast. Little did I know that the staff of the Belmond were there watching the entire thing through the window (they were all so sweet).
The proposal was better than anything I had ever imagined…and that includes the ring! He chose the ring himself and I couldn’t have chosen anything more beautiful! If I was an engagement ring, this is what I would be. He got me the classic Pave Tiffany® Setting Engagement Ring with a Pavé Diamond Band in Platinum. The whole thing couldn’t have been more perfect!
AFTER THE PROPOSAL:
We then went to the Greek Theater to take some more engagement photos which turned out amazing (all his idea!)
We then went into the town to take a few more pictures, and after met up with some of his friends that happened to be close by. We had a few drinks with them before going back to the hotel for our dinner reservations.
After arriving back at the Belmond Grand, we called our families and friends with the fantastic news! Our parents already knew the plan (being the gentleman he is, had already asked my dad for his blessing). Everyone was thrilled at the news!
We freshened up and made the short walk to Otto Geleng, the Michelin-star restaurant in the Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo. It was delicious and we sat in the best seat in the restaurant!
Then we went to the bar area in the hotel and met another couple from England. We had some laughs along with our drinks before heading back to our beautiful suite!
THE NEXT DAY:
The next day, we woke up and had a grand brunch on our private terrace. We had the best poached eggs (we both agreed they were the best eggs we tasted), and of course champagne! It was perfect and I couldn’t have been happier!
After brunch, we sat on the terrace drinking our coffee enjoying the view before packing up to our next destination…the Amalfi Coast! That will be the topic of my next post ;)
It was the perfect day, with a perfect man and I couldn’t have asked God for anyone better <3
